What happens right after I sign up?

Signing up asks for nothing beyond your email and a password. If you sign up with an email address we send you a verification link — click it and you are in. Sign up with Google and you go straight through. Your Budget starts empty, and you add things whenever you are ready: income on the Income page, bills on the Budget page.

How do I sign in?

With your Google account (one click, no password) or with an email address and password. If you registered with email you need to have clicked the verification link first, otherwise sign-in is refused until you do.

Question 3

What can I track with Money Me?

Accepted Answer

Bank account balances, recurring and one-off bills, income sources, savings goals, debts (money you owe) and credits (money you are owed). The dashboard, and the surplus indicator in the sidebar, pull all of it together so you can see what is genuinely left to spend.

Question 4

Does Money Me connect to my bank automatically?

Accepted Answer

No. Money Me is a manual tracking app — you enter your balances and payments yourself. Your bank login is never shared with us, and nothing enters the app unless you put it there. Each account card has an Update Balance button for when the real figure moves.

Where do I find the guides and the Getting Started tutorial again?

Settings > Help & Documentation. You can reopen the Getting Started walkthrough there at any time, and expand a guide for any page — Budget, Savings Goals, Analytics and the rest — to read what it does without leaving the page. If none of it answers your question, there is a Contact link on the same page.

Question 6

I get paid on the 25th, not the 1st. Can my month start then?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it is worth doing. Settings > Profile lets you set a custom month start day. Every period in the app then runs from that day to the day before it next comes round, so your Monthly view, your budget breakdown and your surplus all line up with your pay cycle instead of the calendar.

Question 7

What is the surplus figure, and what goes into it?

It is what the period has left. It takes your bank balances, adds income you are still due, takes off bills you have not paid yet and whatever you are putting into savings, then adjusts for any debts you chose to include — money owed to you raises it, money you owe lowers it. You will find it at the bottom of the sidebar on desktop, or in the top bar on mobile, and on desktop you can hover it for a line-by-line breakdown. That indicator always shows the period you are in now. The Monthly page is where you can look ahead, and a future period reads differently: there is no bank balance or debt figure yet, so it shows expected income minus bills and savings — what that period is planned to produce rather than money you hold today.

Question 8

Can I remove a bill I already know will not happen?

Accepted Answer

Yes — skip that payment. In the Expenses list on the Monthly page, each pending payment has a Skip button beside it, and it works on months you have navigated forward into as well as the one you are in. Skipping takes that payment out of the period's planned spend, so the surplus for that month rises by the amount and shows what you will really be left with. It is per payment, not per expense: skipping next month's gym fee leaves the gym expense itself untouched and every other month unaffected. Skipped payments collect in a Skipped section below the list, and Restore puts one back if you were wrong.

Can I skip or pay off a bill by swiping on my phone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. On a phone, drag a pending payment sideways: left skips it, right marks it paid. Nothing happens until you have dragged far enough — at that point the coloured pane behind the row turns solid and names the action, so you can always see what releasing will do. Slide back before letting go and the row springs into place having changed nothing. Skipping this way opens the Skipped list immediately, so Restore is one tap away if you did not mean it. In a month you have not reached yet only the skip direction works, because a bill that has not come round yet cannot have been paid. The Skip and Complete buttons are unchanged and still work everywhere, including on desktop and with a screen reader.

Question 10

What is the difference between skipping a payment and deleting it?

Skipping says the payment is not happening this time. It stays on the record, is excluded from your budget and surplus, and you can restore it whenever you like — so it is the right choice for a cancelled subscription month, a bill that got waived, or anything you might change your mind about. Deleting an occurrence, from the expense's own page, removes it permanently and cannot be undone. If you are unsure which you want, skip it.

Why do the Dashboard and the Monthly page show different income?

Because they answer different questions, and both are right. The Monthly page counts your actual pay dates, so a period containing five weekly paydays really does total more than one containing four. The Dashboard's "Monthly Income" card instead smooths your stated frequency into a monthly average, counting weekly pay as 4.33 payments a month. If the two disagree, this is why.

I paid last month's bill this month. Why is it still showing in last month?

Accepted Answer

Because a bill counts in the period it was due, not the period you paid it. Pay a July bill in August and it stays in July, moving from "To pay" to "Paid" there, and August is left alone. That keeps each month an honest record of what that month cost you. If the bill genuinely happens on a different date, edit that occurrence's date rather than just paying it late — changing the date is what moves it between periods.

Question 13

What should I do about an overdue bill?

Unpaid bills from earlier periods do not vanish: the Monthly Budget card lists them separately as carried over from earlier months so you can clear them. They sit outside this period's totals and outside the surplus, which counts only bills dated in the period you are looking at — so an old unpaid bill will not quietly drag this month down, but it is still waiting. If you did pay it, mark it paid and it settles into the month it was due. If it is never going to be paid, skip it — that keeps the record, and you can restore it if you were wrong. Move its date instead if it is simply happening later.

What does "Uncategorised" mean on my budget?

It collects any expense that has no category set — in practice older entries, since a category is required when you add something now. It counts in your totals exactly like every other row, so your figures still add up. Open the row, tap through to the expense and choose a category, and it moves to where it belongs.

How does the monthly budget breakdown work?

Accepted Answer

Your monthly budget is simply the bills and payments you have planned for the month — there is nothing to set up. The Monthly Budget card totals that plan, shows how much of it you have already paid and how much is still to come, then breaks it down by category. A bill counts in the month it was due, not the month you pay it, and everything follows your custom month start if you use one. It is free for everyone, and so is marking a bill paid.

Is what I spent on a category this month normal for me?

Accepted Answer

Tap the category on the Monthly Budget card and the panel tells you, on one line, what this category comes to for the month you are looking at next to your average over up to three earlier months. Those months use your own month start, so the comparison normally matches what you would see by navigating to them. A month in which you had no budget at all is left out, as is any month before you joined, but a month where you budgeted other things and nothing in this category counts as zero, because for that category that is the true answer. With no history to compare against, the line simply does not appear. It compares plans, so a month you are still adding to will read low against finished ones.

Can I set savings goals?

Yes. A goal can have a target amount, a target date, and a plan of dated deposits. You can also tick "Locked savings" on a goal: that means the money is sitting in your main account but should be treated as spoken for, so what you have already saved comes off your monthly surplus. Leave it unticked — an emergency fund, say — and only your planned deposits for the period are taken off.

Why did my saved amount go down when I marked a goal cost as paid?

When you mark a cost item on a savings goal as paid, Money Me reduces the saved amount by whatever you paid, so "amount saved" keeps reflecting what is actually left in the pot. A five-second Undo appears if you clicked the wrong thing, and you can edit the saved amount directly via the pencil (Edit Goal) at any time.

What is the difference between a target amount and itemised costs on a savings goal?

A savings goal works one of two ways. A simple goal has a single target amount you type in. An itemised goal instead has a list of cost items — the parts of a trip, say — and its total is added up from those items automatically, so you do not set a separate target. Once a goal has any cost items its total always equals the sum of them, which is why "Need to save" on the Overview and "Still needed" on the Plan tab stay in agreement. To change an itemised goal's total, edit the items on the Plan tab rather than looking for a target field.

What platforms is Money Me available on?

Money Me is a web app that works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet and mobile, and it is fully responsive on small screens. There is also an Android app on Google Play, which adds home-screen widgets and push notifications. There is no iOS app yet — on an iPhone, open money-me.com in Safari and add it to your home screen.

What are the home-screen widgets and how do I get them?

The widgets put your key figures on your Android home screen without opening the app. Install the Android app from Google Play, add the widget to your home screen, then tap Connect on the widget itself to pair it with your account. Widgets work on the free tier.

Question 22

Will Money Me remind me about bills?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and on the free tier too. Money Me pushes a reminder for bills due tomorrow, and anything already overdue shows up in the daily summary. Choose exactly what you receive, by push and by email, in Settings > Notifications — including turning any of it off.

Question 23

Where do notifications go after I get them?

Accepted Answer

Tap the bell at the top of any page. It has two parts: anything overdue that needs you to act, and Recent, which lists your most recent 30 notifications. Each one shows what kind it is — a bill, a savings contribution, or a summary — and anything that arrived since you last looked is marked as unread. Tapping one takes you where it was pointing. The badge counts both parts, and opening the bell marks the notifications read.

How many push notifications will I get in a day?

At most one in the morning and one in the evening, plus a reminder when a bill or a savings contribution is actually due. The morning summary arrives around 8am with your surplus and what is due today; the evening recap arrives around 8pm with how the day ended. They are separate switches under Settings, Notifications, so you can keep one and turn the other off.

Why does the Android app icon show a dot when there is nothing new?

That dot is Android telling you a Money Me notification is still sitting in your notification shade, unread. It clears when you open the app, or when you swipe the notification away. Whatever it was about stays in the bell under Recent, so nothing is lost by clearing it.

How do I use the AI assistant?

Subscribers can connect Money Me to an AI client that supports MCP. Go to the AI page, generate an access code, and paste it into your AI client to let it read and update your finances by asking. Generating access codes is a subscriber feature.

Why can't I add another bill, account or goal?

Accepted Answer

You have hit a free-tier limit. The free plan covers 3 bank accounts, 1 income source, 20 bills, 2 savings goals and 2 debts or credits, which share one limit. On the Budget, Income, Savings and Debts pages a counter next to the title shows where you are and turns red when you are full; bank accounts have no counter, so a fourth one is simply refused with a message. The automatically created General Savings goal does not count towards your goals. Subscribing removes every limit.

What do I get by subscribing?

Subscribing removes the free-tier limits and unlocks CSV export, the AI assistant, Quick Save into a savings goal, and marking income received from the Monthly page. The things people rely on day to day — the monthly plan, the budget breakdown, marking bills paid, marking income received from the Income page, reminders and the home-screen widgets — all work on the free tier.

What payment methods can I use?

Payments run through Stripe Checkout. You can pay by debit or credit card — Visa, Mastercard and American Express — and Apple Pay or Google Pay appear automatically at checkout if your device supports them. If you have a promotion code there is a box to enter it. Your card details go straight to Stripe and are never seen or stored by Money Me.

Can I export my data?

Subscribers can export their expenses, income and savings goals as CSV from Settings > Export Data, for a local backup or to open in a spreadsheet. CSV export is a subscriber feature; on the free tier your data stays in the app.

Can I cancel at any time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Go to Settings > Subscription and tap Manage Subscription, which opens the secure Stripe billing portal where you can cancel. Your access continues to the end of the billing period you have already paid for.

Question 32

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Accepted Answer

Nothing you have entered is deleted. At the end of your billing period your account returns to the free-tier limits, so everything is still there to look at — you just cannot add beyond the free allowances, or use CSV export and the AI assistant, until you subscribe again. If you delete your account entirely, your personal data is removed from our systems within 30 days.

How is my financial data kept secure?

Your data is stored in Amazon DynamoDB, encrypted at rest and in transit. We use secure authentication, server-side input validation and parameterised database queries. We never store your bank login credentials — Money Me is a manual entry app, so they are never given to us in the first place.

How does Money Me handle my payment details?

Card details are collected and held by Stripe, never by us. We only receive from Stripe what is needed to manage your subscription: whether it is active and which plan you are on. We never see or store any part of your card number. To check or change your card, open the Stripe billing portal from Settings > Subscription.
